Themes and appearance

TUI themes control workbench chrome, titles, hints, pickers and controls. They do not remap a child program’s ANSI colors. Set desktop fonts and font size in the host terminal.

Start with a readable palette

version: 1
tui:
  theme:
    mode: dark
    palette: builtin
    primary: "#a970ff"
    secondary: "#7ab8ff"
    background: "#101018"
    foreground: "#eeeeef"
  chrome:
    header: true
    footer: true
    panel_presentation: card
    pane_title_template: "{{terminal}}@{{endpoint}}"

mode accepts dark, light and system. Currently, system behaves as host-aware dark, not automatic OS light/dark synchronization. palette: host derives defaults from the host palette; builtin uses AnyTTY’s baseline. Explicit colors override either.

Color layers

primary emphasizes focus, secondary secondary information. success, warning, danger and info express status; muted reduces emphasis. theme.border distinguishes panel, active, inactive and muted borders. theme.surface controls chrome, status, overlay and toast backgrounds.

Use quoted "#RRGGBB" values. Empty color values use built-in, host-derived or calculated defaults. Change a few core colors before overriding every token.

Titles, glyphs and controls

pane_title_template can display terminal and endpoint names. workspace_template and tab_template format headers using documented variables and style spans.

chrome.pane_glyphs controls action glyphs, footer.templates formats hints, and shortcuts.actions changes action labels and styles. Display templates do not change keybindings. Optional Nerd Font glyphs require an appropriate host font.

Density and validation

split-line saves space; card emphasizes pane boundaries. Hiding the header or footer removes useful navigation or hints, so start with both visible.

See the configuration reference for fields and templates. Run anytty config validate and reopen the TUI. If changes are missing, inspect the selected file, environment overrides and host palette.
