Data, logs and backups
Preferences, routes, credentials, layouts and terminal history are different data categories. Identify locations and recovery rules before backing them up.
Resolve paths
anytty config paths
This reports configuration, socket, log, history and clipboard locations. Do not copy a machine-specific temporary socket path into another setup.
| Data | Handling |
|---|---|
| TUI/daemon YAML | Back up, migrate selectively and validate |
| Endpoint registry | Contains routes and credential references; redact before sharing |
| Private keys/credentials | Use protected storage, not casual file copying |
| Workbench layouts | Managed through workbench storage, not theme YAML |
| History/clipboard | May contain real output and secrets |
| Project artifacts | Back up independently using project policy |
Diagnostic logs
Inspect the failure’s time window and extract version, error type and route. Most reports do not need entire histories or complete configuration.
Backup and restore
Preserve artifacts and portable preferences first. Consistent data snapshots require a maintenance window without concurrent writes; stopping the daemon affects tasks. Follow platform credential recovery capabilities and prefer fresh pairing on a new device.
Validate configuration, routes and grants after restoration, then run a small task. Existing files are not proof of cross-version compatibility; see updates.
Cleanup
History prune/delete acts locally and deletion is irreversible. During uninstall, decide separately about preferences, history, logs and grants. Local cleanup still requires separate target-side revocation.
