File paths and permissions

AnyTTY file tools operate on the daemon’s machine. The target platform interprets paths, while grants, daemon file policy and OS permissions constrain access.

Identify each side

In anytty file download workstation /srv/project/report.json ./report.json, the first path belongs to workstation and the second to the CLI machine. The App file manager browses its selected device.

Identical path strings can refer to different content on different machines. Windows and Unix formats and case rules differ. Prefer explicit absolute remote paths and quote paths containing spaces.

Working directory versus browsing

A terminal’s cwd sets where its program starts. A file manager’s current directory need not match that terminal. Browsing does not change a running shell’s directory.

Access boundaries

A request needs the relevant capability, path permission and target OS rights. Diagnose the request and directory rather than escalating the daemon to administrator.

File-tool restrictions are not a shell sandbox. An interactive shell can run commands available to its OS user. Use OS accounts, containers or system permissions when task isolation is required.

Before modifying files

Overwrite, move, rename and delete affect real target files. Check endpoint, full path and purpose. A running process may retain old file handles or require a reload after changes.

Use App files or CLI file commands.
