Connect over Direct
Direct uses an explicit target listener, suitable for LANs and controlled networks. These examples use 192.168.1.20; replace it with an address reachable from the receiving client.
1. Prepare the listener
The default loopback address cannot be used directly by a phone. If the target daemon is not running:
anytty daemon start --route 192.168.1.20:41120
Starting an already-running daemon does not reconfigure its listener. Save or finish tasks before deliberately running:
anytty daemon restart --route 192.168.1.20:41120
Restart affects that daemon’s running tasks. This is listener maintenance, not an everyday TUI prerequisite. Bind an available local interface. Wildcard hosts broaden listening and enable paired-device LAN discovery.
2. Create an invitation
anytty pair create --route direct \
--direct-address 192.168.1.20:41120 \
--qr-file ./direct-pair.png --out ./direct-claim.txt
--direct-address publishes an address for Direct setup and ICE-TCP. For separately published addresses, use the paired --signaling-address and --ice-tcp-address options consistently.
3. Pair and verify
Scan the QR code in the App, or run anytty pair import ./direct-claim.txt --id workstation on another computer. The invitation is a one-time secret.
Check target firewall rules and network isolation. Inspect routes with endpoint show and test using endpoint test workstation --route ROUTE_ID.
4. Daily use
Open the paired endpoint in the TUI or App. IP changes, cellular networks or target sleep can make the address unreachable; update the route or choose another path. Reachability still requires valid authorization.
