Choose a client
Choose a client for the task in front of you. TUI, App and CLI access the same target devices and terminals, while their layouts, input methods and preferences differ.
| Task | TUI | App | CLI |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interactive shell or editor | Workspaces, tabs and splits | Touch, software or hardware keyboard | Create, attach and send input |
| Monitor multiple tasks | Picker, manager and floating panels | Terminal list and in-app splits | List, inspect and capture |
| Work with files | Use OS tools inside a terminal | File manager and text/image previews | Scriptable file commands |
| Customize the client | Local YAML, themes and bindings | App settings, fonts and petal menu | Configuration helper commands |
| Automate work | Observe and take over | Check and take over on mobile | JSON, waits, events and scripts |
A useful combination
Use the TUI for desktop development, grouping projects into workspaces and watching editors and tests in splits. Open the App to inspect the same computer while away. Use CLI-created named tasks for repeatable work or agents, then find them in an interactive client.
Local and remote requirements
The TUI and CLI ship in the anytty binary. A computer serving terminals needs an AnyTTY daemon. Installing the phone App does not install a service on your computer; network reachability and pairing are also required.
Check the current release channel for supported installation platforms. Source build requirements are not a promise of store availability. See installation.
What is shared
A terminal’s process and output are shared. Themes, fonts, bindings and mobile input preferences are separate client settings. Terminal dimensions also require coordination: viewers do not each get an independent PTY size.
Web tutorials will follow its interaction improvements. Continue with the TUI, App or CLI.
