Your first task in the TUI

Create a terminal, run a command, leave its view and open it again—all inside the workbench. First install AnyTTY, then run anytty in a regular terminal.

1. Open the workbench

anytty

The local daemon starts when needed. You may see restored views in an existing setup or an empty workbench in a new one. Both are valid starting points.

2. Create a local terminal

Ctrl+F is shared by the built-in and installer-recommended configurations. If you customized bindings, follow your footer instead.

  1. Press Ctrl+F to open Terminal Picker.
  2. Select the local endpoint, using left/right arrows if necessary.
  3. Select New Terminal and press Enter.
  4. In Create Terminal, set name to first-session. Leave command empty for the default shell. Confirm the local server and an existing workdir; tags can stay empty.
  5. Use Tab between fields and Enter to submit.

The new terminal attaches to the target pane and displays a shell prompt. If creation fails, check the name, endpoint and directory before retrying.

Use the supplied profile. Show Ctrl+F with New Terminal, then the Create Terminal form with first-session and local/default shell.

3. Run a verifiable command

In the new shell, run:

pwd

The output should match the chosen working directory. PowerShell also supports pwd. The command executes on the selected machine.

4. Leave and reopen the task

Press Ctrl+P, then d, to detach the current pane. Press Ctrl+F, find first-session and press Enter.

You are opening the same shell rather than creating another one. You can also quit the TUI with Ctrl+G, then q, and run anytty again. Tasks remain while their owning machine and daemon continue running.

5. Finish deliberately

Run exit in the shell to end it normally. Its terminal record remains available for inspecting the result; delete that record later if needed. Closing a pane alone is not evidence that a task ended.

Continue with the workbench, workspaces and splits, or your first mobile connection.
